Dental4Windows support for Sydney dental practices

Dental4Windows runs the front desk, the appointment book and the billing in a large share of Australian practices. We look after the servers, workstations and backups it depends on.

Dental4Windows (D4W) from Centaur Software is one of the most widely used practice management systems in Australia. In most practices it runs from a database on a local server, with the software installed on reception and treatment room computers.

That architecture means D4W is only as reliable as the hardware underneath it. A tired server, a full disk or an unverified backup turns into slow bookings, error messages at reception, and in the worst case a practice that can't see its appointment book. That infrastructure layer is exactly what we support.

What we handle in a D4W practice

  • Practice servers hosting the D4W database
  • Slow D4W performance on workstations
  • Daily backup checks and test restores
  • Server replacements and D4W migrations
  • New workstation and treatment room setups
  • Network reliability between rooms and server
  • Windows updates that break printing or scanning
  • Coordination with Centaur Software support

Where we stop and the vendor starts

We don't modify the D4W application itself; that's Centaur's territory. What we do is keep the environment it runs in healthy, and when a fault needs Centaur's involvement, we log the case, speak with their technicians and see it through so your front desk doesn't have to.

One call for your practice

Report the problem to us, whatever it looks like. We diagnose whether it sits in hardware, network, Windows or the application, fix what's ours, and manage the vendor case when it isn't. Your front desk stays out of the middle.

Dental4Windows support questions

Our D4W is slow. Is that the software or our hardware?

It can be either, which is why we diagnose before recommending anything. Common infrastructure causes include an ageing server, a database drive running out of space, or workstations that need more memory. If the evidence points inside the software, we bring in Centaur with the diagnostics already done.

Can you move Dental4Windows to a new server?

Yes. We size and supply the new server, plan the migration with Centaur's guidelines, move the database, reconnect every workstation and verify backups on the new machine before the old one is retired.

How should a D4W database be backed up?

With an automated backup that runs at least daily, is stored somewhere a server failure can't take out, and is tested by actually restoring it. We set this up and check it as part of ongoing support.
